New Xperia Marshmallow beta coming next week; ability to transfer apps to SD card in tow

Sony will roll out a new Xperia Marshmallow beta build some time next week. According to the Japanese company, the update - which will bump the build number to 23.5.A.1.203 - includes as many as 400 fixes and improvements.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=8851708575433261320

From what is currently known, the update will introduce a new functionality that'll allow you to transfer all apps to your device's SD card. As for the fixes, the list includes solution to an 'Unknown call/private number' bug as well as Calendar app crashes.

Needless to say, only devices participating in the Xperia Beta program - including the Xperia Z2 (D6503), Z3 (D6603) and Z3 Compact (D5803) - will get the update.

Android Wear 2.0 update? Here is a handy list of what we currently know

Google came prepared for I/O 2016 and packed the keynote with a few exciting announcements. Many of these, however, like the new Daydream VR platform in Android left us wondering about availability and support. The same goes for Android Wear 2.0, which was showcased on stage in an impressive presentation of new features, but we never got word on whether and when we will experience it on our smartwatch.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=7530304466477999910

In the absence of any official support list, as of yet the only solution is to deduce and hunt around for fragmented information. This is exactly what user konrad-iturbe on Reddit set out to do and the following are his findings thus far:

It is worth noting that as with all things Android, unofficial ports for other devices are bound to arrive at some point. Judging from the users original post, the efforts towards porting the OS over to the the original LG G Watch have already started, but it might not be such an easy endeavor, due to hardware absences, like the speaker.

As for the compatibility list itself, it is sure to grow as the Android 2.0 release, promised for some time this fall draws nearer. Frankly, at this stage, it seems even Google hasn't quite ironed out all the details yet, so a bit more patience is in order.

Mystery Sony smartphone spotted on GFXBench

Sony has been busy with a lot of re-imagining within its smartphone lineup lately. With the "Z" series now officially in the history books and the introduction of the new "X" moniker in its place, with devices like the Xperia X and X Performance, as well as another new Xperia XA lineup, hearing about new and mysterious Sony devices is hardly an isolated occurrence.

However, that doesn't make these discoveries any less exciting and the same goes for the Sony 24UJ95LH34QX77B1, recently spotted in the GFXBench database. The model bears quite a lot of similarity to the Xperia X Performance. It uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and also has 3GB of RAM, making it a close sibling to the current Sony flagship. Its display also has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, but, oddly enough, its size is listed as 5.1-inches, instead of the 5.0-inches on the X Performance.
https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=8358079002444395953

Bear in mind that GFXBench specs reading are taken from the handset's internal variables and are therefore prone to some errors, which might account for the small 0.1-inch difference. However, there are a few other more distinct differences between the two devices as well. For example, the camera setup on the unidentified handset consists of a 21MP main shooter and a 12MP selfie one, in place of the 23MP, plus 13MP combo on the Xperia X Performance.

All things considered, we might be looking at an entirely new device, however, there is also the distinct possibility that this is a small modification on the Xperia X Performance that is yet tot enter the lineup or perhaps even a regional modification.

We would love to hear your take in the comments.

Asus Zenpad Z8 leaks with SD650 SoC, 8-inch display

A new Asus tablet - dubbed Zenpad Z8 - has leaked courtesy of the usually reliable leakster @evleaks who posted an image of the device along with some of its key specifications on Twitter.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=4168652868796088976

The leak says the tablet is powered by a Snapdragon 650 chipset, and sports an 8-inch (1536x2048 pixel resolution) display. It has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal memory. The camera department is handled by an 8MP rear unit and a 1.8MP front shooter.

According to @evleaks, the tablet is headed to Verizon. There was, however, no word on when it would be launched and what price tag it would carry.

Acer's 5,000mAh battery totting Liquid Zest Plus to go on sale in July

Acer has announced that its Liquid Zest Plus smartphone, which was made official last month, will go on sale in the month of July. The device will carry a price tag of $199 in the US, and will cost €199 in the EMEA region.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=3608075733515990857

It's worth mentioning that when the device was unveiled, it's price for the US market was announced to be $250. There's currently no information on why the company decided to drop the price, although it could well be because of the delay between the unveiling and the launch.

Anyway, for under $200, you get a phone powered by MediaTek's MT6735 chipset with quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and Mali-T720 GPU, and featuring a 5.5" HD display. RAM is 2GB, while internal storage is 16GB. A mammoth 5,000mAh battery is there to keep the lights on.

The camera department is handled by a 13MP rear unit and a 5MP front shooter. The device runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.

Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) revealed by TENAA - 5.1" sAMOLED phone

You have a 2016 phone? That's cute. Here's the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017), as detailed by TENAA. No, not a typo, it seems that Samsung already has an entry-level phone for next year ready to go.

There are two versions - SM-J3110 (probably the global version) and SM-J3119 (the China Telecom).

The Galaxy J3 (2017) has a 5.1" Super AMOLED screen - 720p for the international version and 1080p for the special China Telecom version. The rest seems pretty identical - Android 5.1 Lollipop (really, in 2017?), quad-core processor (1.2GHz), 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage with microSD.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=5365038608529025614

There's an 8MP camera on the back with 1080p video and a 5MP selfie camera. Both versions are LTE enabled (naturally) and have a 2,600mAh battery.

Seems like us folks living in the past aren't missing that much.

Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus diagrams reveal a Smart Connector on board

New diagrams allegedly show the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus measurements and ports and fuel fresh excitement for the upcoming devices. The schematics reveal the new crop of Apple flagships will be 1mm thicker than the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Potentially, this could translate into a larger battery, but there's no confirmation of this just yet.

As per the diagrams, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be just as wide and tall as their predecessors. Interestingly, the iPhone 7 Plus will have a dual camera setup whereas the iPhone 7 will only have a single sensor at the back.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=372509899748647687

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=372509899748647687

Lastly, the diagram show a Smart Connector port at the rear of the iPhone 7 Plus. It's very likely that Apple likes iPad Pro users who've bought the Smart Keyboard to be able to use it on the iPhone 7 Plus as well.

We have a general idea of what the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will look like thanks to a render based on confirmed schematics. In the latest diagrams, the 3.5mm headphone jack is missing.

LG G Pad III 8.0 launched with octa-core CPU, 8-inch display

LG has launched a new tablet. Dubbed G Pad III 8.0, the device is powered by an octa-core processor, and sports an 8-inch (1920 x 1200 pixel resolution) display. It offers 16GB of storage (expandable up to 2TB), and features a 5MP rear camera.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=1754935732198267532

Measuring 210.7 x 124.1 x 7.9mm and weighing in at 309g, the tablet runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The LG G Pad III 8.0 is available for purchase in Canada, where Rogers and Fido are currently offering it for CAD 240, or around $185.

As per Rogers, the tablet is targeted towards "youth and young adults looking for the best value device that encompasses the latest productivity."

Google says existing smartphones likely won't work with its Daydream VR platform

Has Google's new Daydream VR platform caught your fancy? Are you waiting to try it on the smartphone you own? Well, sadly, you are out of luck as Google has said that existing smartphones will "most likely" not work with the Android-powered VR platform.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=2856445893018689416

"I can tell you that there will most likely not be any retroactively Daydream-ready phones," said the Mountain View, Califronia-based company's VR division head Clay Bavor.

"We want to hold a very high quality bar, and for that to happen all of the components need to be just right. So, to VR fans, I would say, hold off for a few months to get your next phone… and get a Daydream-ready phone."

It's worth mentioning that Google hasn't yet made public the exact minimum specifications that are needed for a phone to be certified as Daydream-ready.

Of all the already-available flagships, currently only the Nexus 6P is Daydream-supported, but that's only for development - there's no official word on whether or not the device would be supported once the VR platform is officially launched.

OnePlus 3 clears TENAA with 5.5-inch display, 4GB RAM

OnePlus' upcoming flagship smartphone - the OnePlus 3 - has been certified by Chinese telecommunication authority TENAA. As is the case usually, the device's listing on the government agency's website reveals some of its key specs.
https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=3248698065026537571

The TENAA listing reveals that the OP3 is powered by quad-core 2.15GHz processor (likely Snapdragon 820 SoC), and sports a 5.5-inch full HD display. RAM is 4GB, while internal memory is 64GB. A 3,000mAh battery is there to keep the lights on.

In terms of camera, the handset features a 16MP rear unit and an 8MP front shooter. Measuring 152.6×74.6×7.3mm and weighing in at 160g, the device apparently comes with an all-metal body, and runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.

In case you missed, the handset is already up for pre-order in the world's second-largest smartphone market, where it is currently a Flipkart exclusive online. As for price, the phone carries a tag of INR 52,990 ($785).

OxygenOS 3.0.1 beta for OP2 now available for download

Nearly a couple of months after releasing Marshmallow-based OxygenOS 3.0 beta for the OP2, OnePlus has made available another beta community build - OxygenOS 3.0.1. It's not available over-the-air though (just like it was the case last time) - you have to download it from the company's website.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=6051143732251195374

"We appreciate everyone’s feedback from the first community build. With your help we have been able to better optimize the build and improve several key areas," OnePlus says on the build's download page.

As for the changes included in the update, the company lists enhanced Doze mode, improvements to the fingerprint sensor, addition of clear process in the recents screen for the option to remove background processes, new feature in recents screen to allow you to lock apps that you don’t want removed with clear all, as well as some bug fixes and improvements.

The build will also be rolled out OTA, although OnePlus doesn't exactly say when. More importantly, the company makes it clear that "this is the last update before the official OTA, which can be expected within the next couple weeks."

SD820-powered HTC 10 arrives in India for $790, One X9 launched as well

As scheduled, HTC has officially announced its newest flagship smartphone, the 10, in India. The device carries a price tag of INR 52,990, which translates into around $790.

While HTC has already cleared the air on this, it's still worth mentioning that the it's the same global variant - which is powered by Snapdragon 820 and has 4GB of RAM - that has been launched in India.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=807942517091558016

For the uninitiated, after the device was officially unveiled by HTC early last month, there were reports that some regions - including India - will get a downgraded variant (dubbed HTC 10 Lifestyle) instead.

The device will go on sale in the country starting June 5, with the first 500 buyers getting an Ice View HTC 10 cover for free. Available color options for the phone include Glacier Silver and Carbon Grey.

Aside from the 10, HTC also launched the One X9 smartphone for INR 25,990 (around $385) in India. The device is powered by MediaTek Helio X10 SoC, and sports a 5.5-inch full HD display. It comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage, and packs in a 3,000mAh battery.

In terms of camera, the phone features 13MP rear unit and a 5MP front shooter. Measuring 53.9 x 75.9 x 7.99mm and weighing in at 170g, the One X9 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.

The HTC Desire 628 and Desire 825 have also been launched in India, carrying INR 13,990 (around $210) and INR 18,990 (around $280) price tags.

Samsung teases Batman-themed Galaxy S7 limited edition

It's not like Bruce Wayne to be late to the party, but here we are. Back in February, we heard of a 'Batman v Superman' themed Samsung Galaxy S7 edition that would debut alongside the movie.

Only now Samsung is releasing teasers of such a limited edition. It seems like the cross-promotion isn't tied to the movie, but to the Injustice: Gods Among Us game.
https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=1351492120236870867

The first teasers feature the Bat logo and promise a "new device." You can see a tantalizing flash of the logo on a box too, but still nothing on customizations to the actual Galaxy S7 phone.

What of Superman? The Injustice game features him too, along with Wonder Woman, Catwoman, the Joker and many other DC heroes and villains. The high-profile ones may get a limited edition S7 of their own.

5.7-inch LG Stylus 2 Plus unveiled in Taiwan

LG has announced the Stylus 2 Plus phablet in Taiwan, though announced may be an overstatement. Had it not been for a TENAA certification, the smartphone would have gone unnoticed for who knows how long.
https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=3023484709225778728

The Stylus 2 Plus is undoubtedly the better phablet, compared to the already announced Stylus 2. Its 5.7-inch display gets a proper FullHD resolution and the phone is powered by a more powerful chipset, the Snapdragon 430. This means an octa-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A53 CPU, versus half the number of cores in the Stylus 2. 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage round up the list of chief upgrades.

The Stylus 2 Plus also has the upper hand in the imaging department, with a 16MP primary camera. The 8MP front facing unit is the same as the one on the non-Plus, though.

Measuring 155 x 79.6 x 7.4 mm, the Stylus 2 Plus weighs 146g. The battery inside it is a 3,000mAh unit. The LG Stylus 2 supports Cat. 4 LTE, has dual-SIM slots and boots Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

Priced at TWD 10,990 ($340), the LG Stylus 2 Plus will hit the stores in late June. Global availability remains to be detailed.

Samsung Galaxy C5 official - 6.7mm thick, all metal mid-ranger

The Samsung Galaxy C5 just burst on the scene and online stores in China are already accepting pre-orders (the actual sales are scheduled to start on June 6).
https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=1313113580394112473

The Galaxy C5 is a slender metal mid-ranger, it's just 6.7mm thick. It also has a 5.2" Super AMOLED screen (1080p resolution) and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The Home button below the screen is a fingerprint reader.

You get a better camera than the A5 (2016), a 16MP f/1.9 shooter on the back and an 8MP f/1.9 camera on the front. The chipset is fairly similar - Snapdragon 617 (eight Cortex-A53, Adreno 405). A sealed 2,600mAh battery provides the juice.

The Galaxy C5 is a dual-SIM phone, a hybrid slot so you can fit a microSD instead. Additional connectivity includes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC (with Samsung Pay support).

If you're in China, you can pre-order the 32GB Galaxy C5 for CNY 2,200 ($335/€300) and the 64GB one for CNY 2,400 ($370/€330). Outside of China, well, stay tuned. No word on the bigger Galaxy C7 either.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris with biometric technology lands in India

Samsung has been investing heftily in its local India research and development divisions lately and consequently, more and more interesting offers and innovations, tailor-made for the fast-growing market have started to appear. The latest such device is the newly announced Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris, which as its name suggests, is equipped with specialized iris-recognition technology.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=3051900956408279835

The model is meant to be used with certain biometric-based services within the government, like Aadhaar - a centralized biometric and demographic database, operated by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) agency. The tablet is fully compatible with said system and is also STQC-certified and thus proudly wears the "Made for India" moniker as a tool aimed to simplify adoption and usage of the Aadhaar system among others.

As for the device itself, it is far from a tech powerhouse by today's standards. It is based on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite, which it might actually based on, with its 7.0-inch, 600 x 1024 pixels display. It also packs a quad-core processor, clocked at 1.2 Ghz, 1.5GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8GB of expandable storage.

The 193.4 x 116.4 x 9.7mm, 327 gram tablet has a 5MP camera on the back, alongside the iris-recognition hardware itself. There is also Wi-Fi b/g/n on board, Bluetooth 4.1 USB host functionality, which might come in handy and a 3600 mAh battery pack powers the show. The only notable absence seems to be 4G, which is odd, considering the Korean giant's push towards the technology in its India-tailored offers of late.

The price point for the Galaxy Tab Iris is set at INR 13,499, or around $200, but most units are likely to arrive in bulk orders for professional use, rather than see much exposure on the end user market.

ZUK Z2 goes through TENAA ahead of its May 31 unveiling, images and specs outed

Lenovo subsidiary ZUK unveiled the Z2 Pro last month, and the official announcement of the non-Pro Z2 is scheduled for May 31. ZUK has been outing a teaser here and there for the past few days, trying to build hype for the device.

And now the Z2 has been certified for sale in China by TENAA, the country's FCC equivalent. As usual, this means we get to see what the phone looks like, but also the exact hardware it's packing.
https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=6692654001188928408

The Z2 will come with a 5-inch 1080p touchscreen with 2.5D curved glass on top, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset, 3 or 4GB of RAM, 32 or 64GB of non-expandable internal storage, a 13 MP rear camera, an 8 MP front snapper, dual-SIM functionality, and a 3,500 mAh battery. It runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Its dimensions are 140.5 x 69 x 7.9 mm, and it weighs 150g.

It will be offered in black or white, starting at CNY 1,799 ($274 or €246). As you can see, the Z2 has a fingerprint scanner on the front, underneath the screen. At the moment it's unclear where it will be sold aside from China.

Samsung's next phablet will be called Galaxy Note 7 instead of Note 6, new report claims

A new report out of Samsung's native South Korea now claims that the company's next flagship phablet will not be called Galaxy Note 6, as everyone expected. Instead, Samsung will allegedly go with Galaxy Note 7, skipping the number 6 entirely.

The main reasoning behind this move apparently has to do with consistency. Samsung wants all of its flagships released in the same year to have the same number - so if this pans out, in 2016 we'll have the S7, S7 edge, and Note 7. That way there's no chance of some consumers assuming that a Note 6 is a generation older than the S7 edge, for example.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=9131200870773838795

This might also be meant to make the company's products more easily compete with Apple, which is going to launch the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus later this year. Once again, a Note 6 competing with the iPhone 7 Plus could have been perceived as older by people who don't really know anything about the mobile market but do want to spend incredibly high amounts of money on phones.

Moving on from the naming controversy, the new Note is said to come with a dual-edge screen, so we won't see a Galaxy S7 edge+ launching alongside it like what happened last year with the Note5 and S6 edge+. Furthermore, the Note 7 will also have curved glass on its back, just like its predecessor (which is pictured above).

Samsung will reportedly release the Note 7 in early or mid-August - either way, it will become available before August 20. The launch date is thus pushed forward once more, presumably to let the phone be on the market for more time before Apple releases its new devices.

Another Asus Zenfone 3 version runs GFXBench, has its specs revealed

Back in January, we saw two upcoming Asus devices getting benchmarked using GFXBench, a process which revealed most of their specs, as is always the case with such prototypes. Those are still probably going to be two distinct Zenfone 3 models, and today a third has surfaced in the exact same benchmark's database.
https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=72477106617634313

For now it's known only as the Asus Z016D. Its screen size is wrongly reported by GFXBench (this happens a lot) - yet if we assume that it meant 13.8 centimeters instead of inches then the phone sports a 5.5" display, which would make a lot more sense.

nyway, its resolution is 1080p Full HD, while the chipset powering the handset is the Snapdragon 820 from Qualcomm, aided by 4GB of RAM. Internal storage here is 128GB, though it's unclear if it's expandable or not. The main camera has 21 MP resolution and can record 4K video, while the selfie shooter is an 8 MP unit.

This Zenfone 3 variation runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and they all should be on the same version when they launch. The big Zenfone 3 unveiling takes place on May 30, which is next Monday, so there isn't a whole lot of waiting left to do from this point on.

OnePlus 3 launch date is June 14, according to a live chat agent

OnePlus has been hard at work with the upcoming expected release of the OnePlus 3. Just this week, the first selfie taken with the OnePlus 3’s front facing camera has been released to the interwebs. The same device in question has also received the @evleaks treatment, the phone’s basic specs have already been leaked.

New information from a OnePlus live chat agent revealed that the OnePlus 3 will be launched on June 14 with a VR launch just like the OnePlus 2 was last year. Unlike last year, however, viewers of the launch event using the Loop VR will be able to purchase the phone before anyone else.

The OnePlus 3’s specs we know so far include: 5.5 inch AMOLED 1080p screen, return of NFC support, Snapdragon 820 CPU paired with either 4 or 6GB of RAM, 64GB of on-board storage, rear camera, a 3,000mAh battery, and a fingerprint scanner.

Report says Meizu m3 metal variant coming next month

According to a new report out of China, a metal variant of Meizu's m3 smartphone will be made official next month - June 13 to be precise. The new variant will not only feature a metallic design, but will also run Android (version 5.1) instead of YunOS that powers the standard version, the report notes.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=3238438250939313436

The m3 Metal (or whatever it will be called) was also recently spotted on TENAA, revealing specs similar to the m3, including octa-core processor, 5-inch 720p display, 2GB/3GB RAM and 16GB/32GB storage options, and 13MP/5MP camera combo. A 3,000mAh battery will be there to keep the lights on.

It's worth mentioning that the Chinese company is also rumored to announce the MX6 at a separate event on June 20.

Sony expects 20% drop in smartphone shipments this year

Sony has published its forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, revealing that it expects to ship a total of 20 million smartphones in the year, down nearly 20% from the 24.9 million figure it managed in the year prior.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=7919453517586482078

The Japanese company says that the expected drop in sales is due to "a reduction in mainly mid-range smartphone unit sales reflecting an increased focus on high value-added models, as well as a reduction in smartphone unit sales in unprofitable geographical areas where downsizing measures were implemented during the fiscal year ended March 31, 2016."

Sales are forecasted at JPY 940 billion (a 17% decrease year-on-year), but the company expects a profit of JPY 5 billion this year, up from the JPY 61.4 billion loss it recorded last year.

Nextbit Robin now available in India

After a few delays, it seems Nextbit finally came through and made good on its promise to release the Robin smartphone in India. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the cloud-focused device is now out for the general public - sales are expected to kick off exclusively on Flipkart on May 30 for INR 19,999 or about $297. This includes both the Mint and Grey color options. It is worth noting that the handset has already been available on Amazon for a few weeks with international shipping, so you can check that out if you live outside India.
https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=7473386597703252128

If you are not in the know about the Robin, it offers a 5.2-inch IPS 1080p display, 3GB RAM, a Snapdragon 808 SoC, 13MP plus 5MP camera combo and a 2680 mAh battery pack. But the key selling feature of the handset is its rather unconventional cloud approach to storage.

Instead of opting for more spacious internal storage and an SD card, the device has 32GB of local capacity and 100GB more inside the proverbial cloud. The idea is that any apps that don't see a lot of frequent use will be offloaded to the web and then recovered upon request. Nextbit promises that the whole process will be seamless, but we still can't help but wonder how well it will thrive on the emerging India market and its less than ideal network coverage and internet speeds.

Password-free logins coming to Android by end of year, Google confirms

If you recall, back at last year's I/O conference, Google introduced us to Project Abacus, an effort aimed at ditching passwords-based logins in favor of a completely different system that takes into account various factors including your typing and walking patterns, location, and voice.

Well, the company has now given a heads-up on the project, revealing that the new password-free system will be made available to Android developers by 2016 end.

But before that, the project - which has been under testing at over 30 universities in the US - will be tested by "several very large financial institutions," something which will happen starting next month.

"And assuming it goes well, this should become available to every Android developer around the world by the end of the year," said Daniel Kaufman, head of Google’s research unit ATAP (Advanced Technology and Projects), at I/O 2016.

LG trademarks the X5 moniker, cheaper G5 maybe?

LG has recently filed for a trademark on the X5 moninker with the Korean intellectual property rights authority. It's not just the name that's being registered, there's also a logo, with a notched X and a smaller 5 to go with it.
https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=5896868845888489920

LG's X-series currently has the X cam and the X screen models, the two positioned somewhere in the midrange. Meanwhile, the LG G5 SE exists, but it's an alternative to the proper G5 for certain markets, and not really a model to be sold parallel to the G5.

It would make sense then for the LG X5 to be a more affordable version of the G5, inbetween the the flagship and the X cam. Or, it could be a rugged version of the flagship. Now, that won't be the most logical outcome given the current state of the X-series, but X does stand for eXtreme, right?

Rumor says Meizu MX6 set to launch on June 20

A new rumor out of China is claiming that the upcoming Meizu MX6 smartphone will be made official next month - June 20 to be precise. That's broadly in-line with the already-rumored H2 2016 launch time-frame for the device.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=3942502889228692968

Specs-wise, the MX5 successor is said to be powered by a MediaTek Helio X20 chipset, and sport a 1080p display. Latest rumors say there'll be two RAM variants - 3GB and 4GB - with 32GB and 64GB internal memory, respectively.

The camera department will be handled by a 20.7MP rear unit and an 8MP front-facing snapper. The phone is also said to pack in a 4,000 mAh battery, offer LTE support, and run Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based Flyme OS. As for price, the two variants are said to cost around $275 and $305, respectively.

LeEco India sends out media invites for June 8 event; Le 2 and Le Max 2 expected

LeEco (formerly LeTV) has started sending out media invites for a product launch event set for June 8 in India. While the invite doesn't say anything about the product(s) that'll be launched, it'd be reasonable to expect that the Le 2 along with its Pro variant as well as the Le Max 2 are coming.
https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=1183813933023981267

The phones were unveiled in China last month, and went on sale a week later. A total of one million units were up for grabs, and reportedly, the complete inventory was sold in just two hours.

The Le Max 2 is the leader of the pack. It is powered by Snapdragon 820 chipset, and sports a 5.7-inch QHD screen. The device comes in 6GB and 4GB RAM options, with 64GB and 32GB storage, respectively.

It features 21MP/8MP camera combo, and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EUI 5.5. A 3,100mAh battery is there to keep the lights on.

Screen-size limit for Win10 Mobile devices raised to 9-inches

Microsoft has updated the minimum hardware requirements for its Windows 10 Mobile platform, allowing the OS to be installed on devices with screen-size up to 9-inches. Previously, the limit was 8-inches.

Another change that the Redmond, Washington-based company has introduced is that auto-flash has been made mandatory. Aside from the mobile platform, the hardware requirements for Windows 10 OS have also been tweaked - head to the Source link below for more details.

Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro could be headed outside of China

Looks like the Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro (2016) - which was launched back in March this year, and is currently officially only available for purchase in China - could soon be landing in other markets worldwide.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8287838555664801157#editor/target=post;postID=2242458170519575139

While the device launched in China carries a model number of SM-A9100, a Samsung SM-A910F has been spotted listed on India's import/export tracking website Zauba.

While there's no confirmation on exactly which regions will get the Galaxy A9 Pro, a polish retailer is has reportedly already started accepting pre-orders for the device, suggesting that Europe is on the list.

In case you don't already know, the A9 Pro is a slightly upgraded version of the A9 with 4GB RAM, 32GB memory, and 16MP rear camera. It also packs in a 5,000mAh battery and runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
